Numerical Reasoning Practice Test – Civil Service Exam

We are sharing here the best Numerical Reasoning practice test for the Civil Service exam. This page includes the most common questions for this part of the CSE. Just like our other posts, we also include effective tips and techniques to get the best and correct answer to every question.

Eventually, the PDF version of this whole online reviewer will be done and the release will be announced in this site. Meanwhile, you can just use this free online reviewer because it contains the complete scope of the Civil Service exam anyway.

Even though there is no calculator allowed, Quantitative Numerical Reasoning is not so difficult in the Civil Service exam especially if the examinee is very good in Math and logic.

It involves mainly with the basic Mathematical processes – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division for fractions, ratios, equations, and some problem solving or word problems. There are many series and sequence-questions as well.

Tips to Pass the Numerical Reasoning Test in the Civil Service Exam

• Relax and just enjoy answering your Math quizzes. If you’re relaxed, you’ll never lose focus and that is so important.
• Know the basics of Math like adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions, ratios, decimals, and equations. If you know these concepts, you’ll surely get everything. Otherwise, you won’t know what to do. (see our techniques below)
• You can use scratch paper for your computations and solutions. Note that you will also have to pass your scratch papers.
• Love Math because it is easy for someone who loves Math.
• Focus in solving problems. Think, analyze, and solve.
• Pray before the exam. It always helps.

Numerical Reasoning Test Techniques

For the purpose of reviewing better, I’m going to share here some concepts of Math because like I said, you have to know the basics before you solve everything. I know I have to share these because this is an online reviewer in the first place. Reviewing is practice.

Decimals:

For Addition and Subtraction, it is very simple and easy. Just line up the given numbers though their decimal point. If it has no decimal point, put one or convert one. Put zeros to complement the numbers if needed.

I remember there are many questions about decimals when I took the exam. Lots involve with multiplication and division. Same with fractions, I think I enjoyed that part so much because fractions are my thing.

• Examples:

5.98 + 6 + ¾ = ______

1.25 + 1.5 + 7.875 ______

25 – 8.35 – 1.3 + _______

For Multiplication, don’t take it too hard because it is very simply too. Just multiply the numbers and count the decimal places to the right of the given numbers then move in that decimal (count) from the right answer to the left.

• Example: 3.05 x 1.4 =?

For Division, you have to divide the classic way by making the divisor a whole number. You need to move the decimal place to the right to make it a whole number then do the same way with the dividend. Add zeros to the dividend if necessary. See example below.

• Example:  0.35 ÷ 1.4 (0.35 is the dividend and 1.4 is the divisor here)

Fractions:

Some of the questions in Math and Quantitative Numerical Reasoning tests involve with fractions because they are also related to decimals, percent, mixed numbers and algebraic expressions. Again, if you master solving fractions, it will be a great edge for you.

In this process, the easiest way is to always simplify the fractions by finding the LCD aka least common denominator, then apply the operation. If the result is improper fraction (numerator is bigger than denominator), simplify it too by giving the mixed number. Watch this helpful video.

How to Multiply and Divide Fractions?

To multiply fractions is easier. Just multiply both the numerator then multiply both the denominator. Simplify the product is you must.

• Example: ½ x ¾ = 3/8

To divide fractions, inverse the second fraction then we follow the rules in multiplication. You can also cross-multiply the given fractions.

• Example: How many 1/3’s are there in ½?

Converting Fractions to Decimals and vice versa:

In converting fractions to decimals, just divide the numbers and round them off.

• Examples:

1/3 = .333
5/8 = .625
7/8 = .875

Another way is to find a number to multiply by the denominator to make it 10, 100 or 1000…

• Example:

Positive and Negative Numbers:

• Positive + Positive = Positive
• Negative + Negative = Negative
• Positive + Negative = Subtract the two and use the sign of the bigger number
• Positive – Negative = Change the sign of the Subtrahend and follow the rules of Addition
• Negative – Negative = Change the sign of the Subtrahend and follow the rules of Addition

Multiplication and Division:

• Multiplying and dividing numbers with similar sign equals Positive ( + x + = +) and (– x – = + )
• Multiplying and dividing numbers with different signs equals Negative ( + x – = – ) and ( – x + = – )

Number Series and Sequence:

There are also logical sequence and number series in this Math exam. Of course you have to find the next number from the pattern. You will know the right answers by applying the same method you used in a sequence to get the next number or the next.

Examples:

3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13
2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128

Problem Solving:

We cannot miss to include this scope here because every Math exam has problem solving. The key to find the correct answers is to analyse the given case well and understand what is being asked. Apply your magical Math logic.

5. guys sa 17 po kasi db .75 naman tlaga ang percentage
but think of this,ang hinahanap ay in decimal form not in percentage kaya convert it into decimal then i’ve got 0.0075.

• anu nga ba tlga tamang sagot sa number 17??

• peron same question lang sila sa number 19..yung answer ng 19 naka base dun sa sample..

• Q17 is percent to decimal, 3/4% = 75%, the answer should be .0075
Q19 is fraction to decimal, the answer is 0.25

• 3/4% is also 75% so it means 75% is 0.75.
just like 1% is 0.01.. 10% is .10 .. and so on..

• sa #17, no computation needed. Convert 3/4 to decimal lang ang sabi ng question, .75 lang ang sagot.

• #17 fraction to decimal : 3/4 = .75
fraction to percentage: 3/4 = 75%

• Nah. 75% = 75/100
So, 75/100 = .75

• solution:

1. 3/4% convert first the fraction to decimal: 0.75% is the answer
2. covert the 0.75% note: still in percentage format so we going convert again to decimal. 0.75/100 = 0.0075.

6. pls. give the answers for these

• Plz po pa provide ng answers.. thanks alot

• meron silang followed page for the answer key…. hanapin nyo nalang din dito sa website nilang ito….

7. Hello po How can i purchased this reviewer po i will be taking next year can you help me how can i buy this reviewer without credit card here’s my email

8. Hi po Ma’am, patulong naman po kung paano mka purchase ng reviewer with anwer key, wala po kasi akong credit. Paki contact nlang po sa mail ko. Salamat! 🙂

• Hi Ms. Fehl,

Pano po iprocess yung payment ng CSC reviewer without the use of paypal.
Pede po ba ang transfer na lang po.

9. hai. good day to all.. pwede po ba aq magpasend ng copy nitong 1taker.com csc reviewer sa email q?… i find it very helpful..mag tatake po aq next year and i would like to use this reviewer.. 🙂 please help me..salamat and Godbless always.

11. hi po dun po sa no. 12 diba dapat po 32 po ung sagot

• I think its 16, LCF kasi ang hinahanap..

• I mean LCD.. 🙂

• 2 di ba kasi LEAST common denominator?

• 16 lang

12. hello could anyone please send me a copy of reviewer or another way of payment wala kasi akong credit card. maraming salamat guys

goodluck to us! this coming august!

13. di ko gets ang #30 .. bakit e divide sya sa 80% ?? help nman

• x= orig. price
y= value of 20% discount
1) To get the value of 20% discount:
x (20%) = y or x(0.2) = y
2) To get the orig. price:
x = 2,450 + y
3) substitute the value of y from the 1st equation:
x= 2,450 + (x(0.2))

x-x(0.2)= 2,450

0.8x = 2,450

0.8x / (0.8) = 2,450 / (0.8)

===>>>>> x= 2,450/0.8
or
x= 2,450/ 80%

• For you to get the amount of the shoes without discount 2,450/0.80= 3,062.50

• Good Day!

Ask lang po pwede mag copy ng reviewer sa email ko. Thanks.

• find the original price:

Equation OP = DP / P

=2,450 (Discounted Price) / 80% or 0.80 (Percent without Discount)
= 3,062.5 (Original Price)

The question is, where 80% comes from?
–> from 100%(standard) – 20%(discounted) = 80% (not discounted)

14. Hi maam pwd ba mag ask ng copy ng reviewer pwd po ba pa send sa email ko ? Thank you maam . God bless!

15. ang galing..may solusyon pa..na explain ng maayos step by step..goodluck sa mg tatake ngayong MArch po….malaking tulong to….

16. Kahit napakahirap ng math sakin atleast may nakuha parin akong idea. Sana pumasa ako. thanks to maam Marifel sa reviewer mo. Napakalaking tulong nito. narefresh ako. 🙂

17. Hi Maam” mai reviewer po ba tayo para sa March 12 2017 na exam? Thank you..

18. Hello Ms. Marifel, ask ko lang po if yung reviewer sa homepage if different from your ebook. Need pa ba mag purchase for the complete reviewer. Thanks po.

19. Yun sa #26 #27 halos pumutok na utak ko sa mga ganyan…. bakit po kaya ganun ang pag solve xD

20. 22/30… need.to try another set of questions

21. Ma’am marifel good day… patulong po sana ako regarding sa problem #24, d ko magets how it ended to y=2

If x=8, find the value of y in the equation: 4x – 2y = 28.
Ans: y=2

• sol’n is:

if x=8:
4x-2y=28 – “replace x with 8” bcos the problem says x=8
4(8)-2y=28 – “multiply 4 to 8”
32-2y=28 – “Transpose 32 to the other side”
2y=28-32 – “the transposed 28 would be converted to -28”
2y=2 – “divide 2y and 2 with 2 to cancel 2y”

• hindi ba negative 2

• solution:
if x=8

4(8)-2y=28
32-2y=28
-2y=28-32
-2y= -4
———
-2 -2

y= 2

note: negative divided by negative = positive

22. Mam marifel, good day to you… d ko po magets ung formula sa question #24 po… its been 24 hours tyring to figure it out how it ended y=2… please thanks po maam

• 4x-2y=28; where x=8
4(8)-2y=28
2y=32-28
2y=4
y=4/2
y=2

43. Mam Good morning! Mam gusto ko po sana mag avail ng civil service reviewer kaya la ng po wala po kasi akong credit card, ano po ang aking gagawin ?

44. how much po ang reviewe in peso?

45. Another concern lang po, number 17. Sa answer key po, 0.0075. Pero di po magcoincide sa explaination. if 3/4% is = to 75% or 75/100 then it should be 0.75? Tama po ba?

• That’s one of the tricky questions and I’ve explained why the answer is that in the previous comments here. Please read nalang po. God bless!

• 0.0075 is the correct answer because, 3/4 = 0.75 . then, to get the percentage, divide it by 100 . so, 0.75/100 = 0.0075 .

46. Nalilito lang po ako. Number 13 sa Numerical Reasoning. Sa Sample Test 36 and 54, sa answer key 36 and 64. Pakilinaw po Please.

• if the given is 36 & 54, the GCF is 9.

47. I am very thankful sa 1taker.com because i already passed the CSE last april 2014 and now i am planning to take the professinal exam this coming april 2015, still hoping and believing that i can make it with 1taker help and support. 😀

48. Hi maam i see your 1taker.com civil service commission online reviewer I’m going to take again in civil service.

49. Mam ang sgot po ata s no 12 ung s LCD is 4 not 16 po 🙂

• I think tama po ang 16 as LCD
1/8 ,3/4, 1/16
16 ang lcd kasi yan ang pwede mo gamitin na denomnator sa tatlo pag i add or subtract… 4 cant be on 1/8 and 1/16
Sana nakatulong po
Check ulit ang rules sa addition and subration of fraction ..
Thanks

#thank you po .Godbless

• Thank you TJ 🙂 You can make it!

56. thanks !

57. It needs to be answered!

58. gug pm mam pwede mag ask how to solve this problem 107 – (-17)=

• Change the sign of the subtrahend and follow the rules in Addition.

59. ano po answer nmber 28? wala po kase sa answer key

61. please check the answer for number 17. it must be .75 and not .0075

• I cant find it too.. :'(

• tama po ang mga nsa answer key . . . tnx a lot maam.

62. yung number 17… Bakit po naging .0075? dapat dba .75? hmm nakakalito haha

3/4% = 75% ibig sabihin .75 din sya?

• I have mentioned the explanation in the previous comments.

• 3/4% is equal to 0,75% beacause 3/4 is equivalent 75/100 or 0.75 , thats why when you transpose3/4% to decimal form you can get o.oo75..

just like for example:
3 and 3/4% is equivalent to 3.75% so when you transpose it to decimal form, you can get 0.0375…

thats what i understand in number 17 🙂

63. Thanks ma’am for the info..

64. di ba ganito gagawin sa number 18?

Example: Express 62.5% as a fraction

Step 1: Write down:
62.5/100

Step 2: Multiply both top and bottom by 10 (because there is 1 digit after the decimal place)

62.5/100 = 625 /1,000

(See how this neatly makes the top a whole number?)

Step 3: Simplify the fraction (this took me two steps, you may be able to do it one!) :

625 /1,000 = 25/40 = 5/8

paano po ba?

• oo nga.. hahaha nakakalito.. ganyan kc ung nakita kong format

• Hi, just a clarification,

RE: 17. What is the decimal form of ¾ %?
Answer: .0075 because ¾ is 75 percent or 75/100.

Manually, I got 3.) .75.
To check using calculator and excell conversion, I was correct.
75 divided by 100 is also .75.

Why is your answer .0075? Have you divided it again over 100?

Thank you!

• 3/4 is equal to 0.75
thus, 3/4% is 0.75%
converting fraction by moving decimal point to the left 2 times..
you will get 0.0075.

tingin ko po, ganun un.. 🙂

• 3/4 percent is different from 3/4 as fraction.
3/4=75 percent
while 3/4 percent = .75 percent
kindly check again.
thanks and hope mas clear..

• Tama po ang approach niyo pero express as fraction ang tanong..although yung example niyo na 62.5 percent to fraction. Ang approach ko jan since na 62.5 percent is equal to .625 as decimal pwede po na 62.5/100 same as .625

#18 same po..

3.4percent =.o34
So pwede na 3.4/100 same as .034

Thanks

65. Cathy scored 85, 87, 90, 95, and 100 in her Math exams. What will be her average grade in Math from this period?

91.40
91.50
92
93.50

why im getting 91.20 using manual math

• 85+87+90+95+100=457/5=91.4
Yan po ang pagkakaintindi ko jan

Kindly check ulit
thanks
